The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, offers internships that provide law students with practical exposure to India’s foreign trade policies, export-import regulations, and international trade law.

These internships are ideal for students interested in WTO agreements, Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), and trade compliance, helping build expertise in regulatory and policy-oriented work.

Eligibility

  • Law students pursuing undergraduate/postgraduate degrees or research scholars from recognized Indian universities
  • Minimum 60% marks in the last examination
  • Preference given to students from national law schools or those with coursework in trade/international law
  • A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the institution is required
  • Applicants must be Indian nationals enrolled in reputed institutions

Mode of Internship

  • Full-time, in-person internship under DGFT officers
  • Work includes data analysis, report drafting, and policy research
  • Placement at DGFT Headquarters or regional offices
  • Limited remote options may be available for research-based roles
  • Submission of a final report/project is mandatory for certification

Important Note

  • As of now, no separate 2026 notification has been officially released yet on the DGFT website.
  • DGFT usually follows a similar scheme every year, and notifications (like 2025–26) are used as the current reference until a new one is published.

  • Applications are typically announced around April–May (for summer internships)
